A tribute to Bergman with the 2018 upcoming 100th anniversary of his birth

CPB International distributes the documentary Persona, the film that saved his life, a documentary/tribute by Maria Sjöberg and Manuelle Blanc, directed in preparation for the 100th anniversary of his birth, on July 14th 2018. A production Camera Lucida Productions aired on Arte as part of a special programmation.

The only director to have been awarded the Palme des Palmes in Cannes, Ingmar Bergman can be seen as the uncontested master of “cinéma d’auteur”. Tarantino, Woody Allen or Michael Haneke regard the director as the absolute film-maker, whose life and work have no equivalent.

Ten years after his death, as we prepare to celebrate the centenary of his birth, this film recounts a single year in Bergman’s life. A pivotal year, a crazy year, in which he would die, and then be reborn thanks to his passion for cinema, and one film: Persona. From Stockholm to Fårö island, using previously-unseen archives, the testimony of people who worked with Bergman and through the eyes of important personnalities from the cinema fascinated by his craft and genius, this documentary recounts the 12 months of Bergman's resurrection.
