On the 24th of December, Christmas Eve, in 1976, at around 9.15 in the morning, Prince Jean de Broglie, an MP in the Eure department and a cousin by marriage to the President of the Republic, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, was assassinated in the street, shot three times in the head.

Today, almost 40 years later, the investigation is still classified as ‘secret défense’ and will remain so until 2051. A particularly long time, justified by the ‘prerogative of sovereignty’ that aims to protect ‘national interest’.

What were the hiddens secrets of this case, that the police and the judiciary at the time were so quick to stifle, nipping in the bud at one fell swoop all the suppositions and suspicions it would no doubt have aroused ? Who was Jean de Broglie and why was he murdered ? What threat did he represent to the powers in place at the time ?

This film re-examines an affair which hit contemporary headlines, by taking into account certain elements which were not exploited during the investigation, gathered together over more than 30 years by French and foreign journalists. It will highlight the involvement of politicians and police in the Prince’s assassination, far beyond any version of the facts that the government of the time was willing to offer.
